Preparing your child for the first day of School
Sending a child to a Formal School is a challenge for parents because they really work hard in convincing their child to go to a School.
The first day of School is an exciting milestone in every child’s life and at Saras Heritage School, we are committed to making it a positive and memorable experience. Whether your child is starting School for the first time or transitioning to a new grade, preparation plays an important role in helping them feel confident and ready.
Here are some tips to guide you and your child for a smooth transition:
- Talk about School in a positive way:
Children always follows and listens to their parent’s thoughts or actions so it is very important that you talk with excitement to your child about their School. Share stories about making friends, learning new things and having fun at School.
- Attend School’s Orientation or open house:
If your child is new to the School, we encourage you to attend our orientation programme or open house events. These opportunities allow your child to meet their teachers, explore the classrooms and become familiar with important spaces like playground, library etc.
- Establish a consistent routine:
A predictable routine helps children feel secure. In the days leading up to the first day, start practicing earlier bedtimes and morning routines. Getting enough sleep and having a calm morning can make a big difference in how your child feels throughout the day.
- Prepare together:
Allow your child to be involved in preparing for his first day of School. Let them choose their backpack, lunchbox etc. This will develop a sense of responsibility.
- Discuss feelings and answer questions:
Encourage your child to discuss their feelings and reassure them that it’s perfectly fine feeling anxious about new experiences. Let them know that their teachers are here to help them in every way.
- Practice independence:
In preparation for School, start making them independent in small things like packing their bags, opening lunch container and using the restroom on their own. These skills help children feel confident and capable during the School day.
- Create a goodbye routine:
A simple and consistent goodbye routine can ease separation anxiety. Whether it’s a special handshake, hug or any phrase, having a predictable parting moment gives your child a sense of comfort as they head into the classroom.
- Having faith in School’s system:
We at Saras Heritage School, prioritize creating healthy, safe and happy environment for all our students. It’s normal for some children to take extra time to settle in a new atmosphere. Rest assured, our teachers and staff are fully qualified and trained to take care of child’s needs.
- Stay connected with us:
We value open communication with our parents. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the teachers or school’s office, in case you have any query.
The first day of school is a beautiful beginning of an exciting journey. At Saras Heritage School, we are honoured to be a part of your child’s educational journey. Together we can make this transition smooth and joyful.
